About Us
The Essex County ATV Club Inc. is a registered not for profit corporation in the Province of Ontario. Our membership as of Oct/08 stands at 130 members, having doubled over the past twelve months. Our membership includes several families, something we are proud of and promote.
Our organization strives to promote safe and responsible recreational ATV riding. The number of ATV enthusiast is growing rapidly, creating a need for safe, legal riding opportunities.
Our location in south western Ontario presents us with unique barriers. Crown land, which is abundant in other parts of the province, is not available to us. This means that we count on the co-operation of local land owners.
Recently, the club has opened thirty kilometres of trails on two hundred and twenty acres of private land. These trails were built with every effort made to protect and enhance the environment and to have minimal affect on the wildlife present. We work with land owners to identify sensitive areas or areas of special interest. Recently the Town of Amherstburg passed a bylaw allowing the club to link two properties using a municipal road. When this bylaw was passed the Mayor, several Councillors and administrators expressed their support for our club and its goals. We have other riding areas available in Amherstburg and we are currently working with several land owners to gain connecting properties to make these areas viable.
The Essex County ATV Club is a member of the Ontario Federation of ATV Clubs(OFATV) This gives us access to several benefits. Most important is the insurance policy. Proper insurance remains the number one issue faced by land owners. Once a land use agreement is signed, the landowner in covered by our $5 million dollar third party insurance. The OFATV also assist us with guideline and policy matters to help insure that we continue to grow and improve our club.
